If you missed the 8th Annual Polar Plunge!!! Last weekend at Carolina Beach to benefit Special Olympics Carolina Beach
On your mark, get set, TAKE OFF INTO THE CHILLY ATLANTIC OCEAN!! Only rules: No wetsuit allowed!! The eighth annual Polar Plunge took place in Carolina Beach this past Saturday. Participants dressed up in elaborated, extravagant costumes as they plunged into the water. Even though temperatures reached around 70 degrees, the water temperature was still a frigid 50 degrees. The Polar Plunge benefits the Special Olympics New Hanover County. Special Olympics New Hanover County has over 600 athletes. These athletes train all year long to compete in 11 different sports locally, regional, and state. The program receives no government help and runs solely on private or corporate support and volunteers. The Polar Plunge turnout was huge! Somewhere in-between 400-500 participants helped raised money for the local good cause. The plungers wore creative and original costumes, but there can only be one winner of best costume. This year, Bangz Hair Salon won, with their employees dressed as the cast of the Flintstones. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event a huge success!!! Please, when thinking of making a charitable contribution, keep Special Olympics New Hanover County in mind.
